Jesse Ventura is Angry

He's angry all right, but is he right?

26 comments:

  1. Of course he is correct A few years ago he could have been prez. He is and has been a voice of truth, common sense and reality. Most who are as vocal as him are generally silenced here in our great land of the stupid and bizarre.

  2. I liked Jesse back when he was governor of MN; he did a pretty fair job, he was reasonable, bi-partisan, and he had some good ideas, and a sense of humor as well.

Then he went pretty well off the rails with his conspiracy theories, and started showing up on any media that would have him, often looking not only disheveled and bizarre to the point where his personal hygiene appeared to have suffered, but saying crazy stuff.

I don't think anyone is 'silencing him', so much as he has behaved and made statements that have marginalized himself.

He's old news, news that only interests a very very narrow segment if not on the absolute fringe, kinda near the edge. Too bad, because in his day, he was pretty good.

  3. This was a frivolous law suit, and frankly at the time, it struck me that he did this - filed this suit - more to get publicity than with any real hope of prevailing anyway.

Customs has always gone through our things; all customs, every country both for reasons of finding taxable items on which duty is owed, and looking for contraband, including dangerous contraband. The idea that this is a presumption that we are criminals is nonsense. Right or wrong, in terms of effectiveness, what the TSA does is an attempt to make flying safer, to secure our airspace and our borders, to secure passengers.

If he sincerely believes this is wrong, and if this is not a media stunt, then I feel badly for him. But the cour decision was reasonable, whether he accepts it or not that things didn't go his way. If he really believes though that he would have won, he's crazier than I thought.

As to his being a governor and a veteran - true, he is. But when did that get someone preferential treatment in court? It shoudln't, and his bringing it up, as he used to do about being a navy seal, is not pertinent here.

  4. I meant to add that Jesse's letting the cat out of the bag when he says the Federal Courts say they have no jurisdiction. I would have to guess that they were fairly careful in their wording--they are not unaware of Jesse's penchant for hyperbole. He probably lacks standing for a civil or criminal suit in the federal system. If he really wants to change the law, he needs to break it and have his case become a cause celebre, shaming the U.S. Congress into taking action to change the TSA's missions and mandates OR he needs to get the grassroots support that might ultimately resort in shaming congress into changing the law. Good luck with both of those, but I gotta guess that Jesse's burned most of the bridges he might have once built between himself and national level pols.

  5. At the risk of being cynical - I wonder if his Conspiracy theory show is renewed or canceled.

When I see this kind of thing:
    The Conspiracy Deepens

Jesse Ventura and his team of investigators are on a mission to examine some of the most frightening and mysterious conspiracy allegations of our time. They review evidence and meet with experts and eyewitnesses to learn more about such topics as the JFK assassination, Area 51 and a possible plot to kidnap our nations water supply. "This is my personal journey," Ventura says, "to prove that there is more to these stories than you know about."

all I see is hype appealing to the new one world order crowd who believes we have Russian tank brigades hidden in Arkansas ready for this malarky:

"Did you know? Public Law 87-297 calls for complete
disarmament so the UN can "maintain internal peace".
51 million American acres are now UN designated!
Military capacity of US is 65% and UN is 800% of
our 1991 levels. The UN Children's Rights takes
responsibility away from parents and gives it to the
state. No mention of God in the UN Charter. AIDS
was UN-induced for population control (House Bill
15090.) HB 666 crushes our 4th Amendment Rights.
UN command of US troops (PDD 25)."

Sadly, there ARE people who read this crap, see this crap, hear this crap on right wing radio, and believe that it couldn't be written, said, broadcast if it were not true. They probably believe half of the made up stuff in the National Enquirer and other tabloids featuring Elvis sightings as well, for the same reason.

Except that it isn't true, and it doesn't have to be true to be printed or broadcast, and their common sense doesn't seem to kick in when it should.

This is paranoia peddling, and Jesse is flying charter, and making money off it. Shame on him, shame on them, not shame on the TSA. The TSA is damned if they do,and damned if they don't.

We haven't had a plane blown up and fall out of the sky; at least they are trying, sometimes well, sometimes a bit overboard.

A TSA agent has been arrested and charged with lewd and lascivious molestation of a minor after police say he tried to keep a girl as a sex slave. Police arrested 57-year-old Charles Bennett of Winter Garden on Friday. A 15-year-old girl was the one who reported him to police. According to reports from the Orange County Sheriff's Office and the Orange County Jail, the 15-year-old victim confided in her caregivers that Bennett had touched her inappropriately three years ago when she was 12. She says he also asked the young girl to be his "sex slave," an accusation investigators say Bennett admitted to in a written statement to police.

  8. I could list a lot of teachers who have had run ins with the law for child porn or similar offenses.

It does not justify indicting the teaching profession or even specific school districts as condoning kiddy porn.

I could list a lot more members of the clergy (and NOT only roman catholic), the medical professions, psychologists, even law enforcement, who commit thees crimes, including while on the job.

That doesn't automatically indicate that these areas of employment condone the behavior. If someone screws up on a background check they should be held accountable. If they fail to notify or cooperate with police, those INDIVIDUALS should be held accountable. But only if they build that lack of cooperation or a tolerance for that conduct into their organization is it fair to criticize that larger employer entity.

    So,

Not particularly; but there is nothing inherent in the job which equates to the agency or the majority of people being anything like the bad guys. They don't equate to Nazis either.

And yes, the Nazi Gestapo had some incredible people in it, really nice. Don't you know your history? Good guys like Gunvald Tomstad.

  12. A double agent does not a Nazi make.

Why am I not surprised that you would think that a government organization whose main job is to molest and sexually assault people isn't inherently evil. I probably am not surprised because you are the same person that tried to tell us that a rape victim was at fault for her assault.

Sure it does, just not the bad guy kind. This guy had to go through all the same stuff the bad Nazis did.

Besides, it was fun to make you look him up. That was my gratification for the really ugly lies you were telling. Like the following:

Why am I not surprised that you would think that a government organization whose main job is to molest and sexually assault people isn't inherently evil.

That would be because their job is NOT to assault or molest people. You know it, I know it. The people who work for the TSA are our friends, family members, neighbors, the people who go to our churches, the people who want to protect our country, people who vote. Some are ex-military.You're just trying to yank my chain, and insult people who are mostly just good, ordinary Americans.

Those who are bad are atypical, like the other criminals and bad guys in our society are not typical of the rest of us.

But you know that; you are simply inherently dishonest that way.

    And then Anonymous wrote:

I probably am not surprised because you are the same person that tried to tell us that a rape victim was at fault for her assault

You must read funny; probably through that right wing squint that uglifies everything and warps your amygdala.

I pointed out the presumption of innocence in criminal cases.

Does a core American value disturb you, Anonymous?

I pointed out that this woman appears to have made a very naive choice in accepting the offer of a tent from this particular stranger.I pointed out that being less naive empowers women.

And I asked the very reasonable question of why this woman didn't call for help from the people around you-- I'm still hoping that clever question will get answered at some point.

But the big question I want answered I asked you. I don't recall seeing your reply.

WHAT WEAPON DID YOU THINK THIS WOMAN, THIS RAPE VICTIM,SHOULD HAVE HAD? WHAT WAS IT THAT YOU WERE SO SURE WOULD HAVE PREVENTED THAT RAPE?

TICK TOCK TICK TOCK TICK TICK TICK

    crickets

That would be, oh yeah, NONE, clever anonymous. You were all wrong on that point.

But if you have an answer, do elaborate here. I look forward to poking holes in your ideas, again, with a sharp pointy stick.

Nor are the overwhelming majority ofthe 50,000 TSA employees criminal. You left out if you have family who are criminals.

What you are is holier than thou, about an organization that was created by conservatives, including a lot of the hires during conservative administrations of the TSA, hires that turned out to be criminal.

Funny what selective memory you have; it goes well with the intellectually dishonest cherry-picking of data.

And your link to aware.org; what a crock; you criticize me for pointing out that there were some good men in the Gestapo (double agents for our side)
and then you fail to identify what kind of 'armed' you meant would PREVENT rape.

A good attitude? Seriously, how much do you think an attitude is significant to a sleeping woman?

You are backpedaling from an incredibly stupid claim about women being armed, you weasel. How dishonest of you.

But I will be sure to remind you how all one needs is a good attitude the next time you insist you require a gun, that all a woman needs to prevent rape is a good attitude.

And YOU presumed to criticize ME for wondering why the woman didn't call for help, given how many people there were around her. Really? Because if she had her wits around her and a self-reliant attitude, the kind of awareness that you linked to, THAT is exactly the kind of thing she should have done.

    Hypocrite.

  17. Put that pointy sharp stick in your own hole. You have no idea how big the tent was, where it was or who if anyone was around, yet you can some how determine that pepper spray, a knife, a gun, or anything would have helped her. That is the talk of a lunatic. Since I don't know the circumstances I'm not gonna guess what she should have done. But deflecting from my original point isn't gonna take the heat off of your callous, uncaring, pitiful attempt to dismiss the victim, blame the victim, and defend the OWS, which has nothing whatsoever to do with a crime that was committed.
Like I said, stick that sharp pointy stick in your hole that you created by non-symapathetic pathetic rants about everything but the victim.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Oh, goody, another chance to poke you with the pointy stick of logic.

Zuccotti park is where the rape allegedly happened, and it is tiny, crowded with an estimated 2,000 people. There have been no large personal tents, the exceptions are those for things like the medical care tent, the food prep area, and other group activities and they are all in pretty much in areas set aside for tents.

    Anonymous the weasel wrote:
"You have no idea how big the tent was, where it was or who if anyone was around, yet you can some how determine that pepper spray, a knife, a gun, or anything would have helped her."

That information was available in the news print and media coverage - the number of people in Zuccotti park, the size of the park, how the tent areas were set up. I was aware of all that from reading up on the OWS generally, and this incident specifically, before I questioned why she didn't make noise.

So, you areapparently admitting you were bone ignorant and talking out of your backside when you claimed that these rapes would never have happened if the woman were armed.

You DID mean armed, not just having a 'good attitude', without any idea of your bogus failed claim being reasonable or not. It was a knee-jerk gun loon response, and you have been backpedaling from that statement ever since.

I have no respect for ignorance.

In his backpedaling, Anonymous wenton to whinge:
That is the talk of a lunatic. Since I don't know the circumstances I'm not gonna guess what she should have done.

Oh, you were guessing what she 'shoulda done' when you were claiming she 'shoulda been armed, because then she wouldn't be raped'. You were not making an informed speculation, you ere bullshitting. I made an infomedstatement, and you were too ignorant to know if it was reasonable or not when you criticized me.

YOU WERE...What is that word.....oh, yeah, WRONG. And what is wrong is that the gunloons believe the answer to every situaiton is to be armed. THAT was the reason I posted it - to underline that difference in thinking - and why YOURS is wrong.

Hey, assholonymous, speakin' of victims; I must have missed your thousands of comments on all of the posts on this blog about wives, girlfriends, kids, cops and others being gunned down by cowardly pieces of shit who got their hands on a gun--legally, in a lot of cases--when their tender feelings were bruised.

Hey Anonymous, I have expressed concern, maybe you missed it. Where in all of your comments have you ever expressed that lovely phrase that you righties like to bitch about so much - and as Jesse does in the video here - about the presumption of innocence?

So, here's a deal Anonymous, I'll write an entire separate post from this one, in which I sympathize about the victims sympatheticaly, expressing the compassion that I feel for her experience, if you do 2 much smaller things here.

    1. truthfully admit you were wrong in you assertion that these rapes wouldn't happen, including that you did initially include guns in what you meant, without knowing the significant information you needed to know to say that;
    2. admit that guns are not the be all and end all answer to preventing every crime; that sometimes all you need is a 'good attitude' -- or retract you assertioin that aware.org is about 'being armed'.

If you give me that much intellectual honesty, I will do my level best to acknowledge it, to meet you half way.

Because THAT would be a wonderful thing, a more honest discussion, a meeting point of minds from which we can better go forward. Heck, I'll throw in an apology and retraction for calling you gunloon and hypocrite -- because if you do what I outlined above, I will feel you have moved out of both of those categories.

    You up for that?

No Democum, I'm actually quite pissed that Obama sends drones to kill American citizens in foreign lands, allows renditions and torture of foreigners, or that cops can crack the skull of peaceful protesters like Scott Olsen or shoot and kill an innocent homeowner like Jose Guerneno with over 70 bullets in 7 seconds. What about his wife and kids?

  23. It must be a bitch to be shamed into a hole to be willing to make concessions that you were an unconcerned snit over the rape and sexual assault of two women. And clearly it is shameful to support an organization that discourages reporting violent criminal acts to the authorities. If you have no compunction about this you must not have any problem with the rape and torture being done in your name, and covered up at Gitmo, or to innocent women and children in Iraq, Afghanistan, Okinawa, or any other place. You simply have no moral standing.

However, by your exact and vivid description of the area in which the crime took place it is easy to see that had a trained person been the victim that at anytime either before or during, the assault, the victim, with a concealed, small caliber weapon could have easily shot her violator at point blank range with no fear of harming anyone else.
    Have a nice day.

You couldn't be more wrong, and clearly I must threaten your manhood, because you lack the balls to make an apology.

I wondered why it was this woman did not make a noise where in a crowded area she might have had help to stop the rape.

I made that comment, clearly explaining that I did not blame the victim for what happened to her. Rather I am well aware that rapists can use threats to coerce their victims, threats not only against the victim, but also directed at others for whom the victim cares - family friends, even pets. This was a comment that I made in anticipation of more details becoming known in future news accounts. But also because it was apparent that help from others should have been available in that specific environment. I actually believe that the number of people around could have been part of why the victim accepted the offer, an offer which I still believe was a bit naive, which is consistent with the victim's age of 17.

Anonymous then goes on to write, in his fictional, delusional, fact-averse way:
And clearly it is shameful to support an organization that discourages reporting violent criminal acts to the authorities.

Ah, NO, wrong again Anon. Both women received immediate support from the protesters at OWS, including from their medical tent personnel, AND there was immediate full cooperation with law enforcement. There continues to be complete cooperation. And they have provided additional effective unarmed security, also in full cooperation with authorities, especially law enforcement. You are factually as well as philosophically wrong, and glaringly inaccurate and ill informed, which is a chronic problem for you..

    to be continued

  26. Anonymous continues to posit a false argument and faulty position when he writes:
"If you have no compunction about this you must not have any problem with the rape and torture being done in your name, and covered up at Gitmo, or to innocent women and children in Iraq, Afghanistan, Okinawa, or any other place. You simply have no moral standing."

Completely inaccurate. What is clear is that I have focused specifically in what I have written so far on the factual aspects of these events, and not on the emotional side. I will admit that while I do think it is pertinent in this discussion to point out that phrase that the pro-gunners like to trot out often, the presumption of innocence, I specifically wrote it in here in part to yank Anonymous's chain. What is clear in what I have written is that I have not chosen to express an emotional response in writing about the rape; that is not the same as not having an emotional response, it simply reflects my decision not to share it here. I have for example shared those emotions with Laci, and others, in telephone conversations. My emotions, if I do not opt to share them, are my personal and private business, and do not constitute an absence of emotion, only privacy.

Anonymous then went on to continue to embarrass himself by his lack of knowledge and ability to reason by writing

"However, by your exact and vivid description of the area in which the crime took place it is easy to see that had a trained person been the victim that at anytime either before or during, the assault, the victim, with a concealed, small caliber weapon could have easily shot her violator at point blank range with no fear of harming anyone else.

That is emphatically NOT the case, and you are incredibly stupid to posit that it is, given the size of the Zuccotti plaza, and the location of the sleeping tents. I doubt you even KNOW in what area these tents were located, how many of them there were, or the proximity of them to each other (measured in inches). Further, you do not adequately account for this woman to have been assaulted while she was sleeping in your assessment.

What you do demonstrate is that you are intellectually dishonest, a hypocrite, and not very bright, certainly chronically ill-informed and fact-averse.

Your argument is apparently that a 17 year old, who is not old enough to legally old enough to carry a firearm should have shot someone accurately in her sleep, without being able to see who was outside the tent in any direction. And that the young woman should have done that INSTEAD of calling for assistance from the crowd of people nearby.

I suppose you could be more stupid than that, but it would take a herculean effort, and clearly your argument, your position, your tragically and profoundly flawed argument does no credit to your pro-gunner position, none whatsoever. But hey - keep trying - you might surprise us all yet with new accomplishments in dumb.

Clearly, as Jadegold maligned colostomy bags earlier, I've maligned one trick trained ponies by calling people like Anonymous one. One trick ponies are clearly smarter, more functional, and more competent than Anonymous.
Anonymous concluded with "Have a nice day." Thank you - I always do when I write a comment that I know will give Laci the human a chuckle.
