Indiana Gun Shop - 1,000 Weapons Missing

via The Truth About Guns, where the entire focus of the post and comments is on the number of agents involved in the raid and how "evil" the ATF is.

Why would gun-rights people defend someone like this? On Farago's site they do it by deflecting attention from the accusations at hand to the ATF and how bad they are. One commenter was defending Iknadosian who was caught on tape advising people how to smuggle guns into Mexico.

As much as the pro-gun crowd try to distinguish themselves from the criminals, it seems to me they are in inextricably intertwined.

Gun Used to Kill Daughter and Attempt Suicide

The bizarre action took place in Colorado, one of those gun friendly societies.

John Wesley French Jr. was arrested Thursday for allegedly shooting and killing his 8-year-old daughter, Sheriff Kirk Taylor said.

French, 32, is suspected of shooting Desirea French at close range in their mobile home and then turning the gun on himself.

French survived gunshots to the head and hand. He reportedly told detectives at the hospital, "I can't believe I did that to my daughter," and, "It was obviously me, no one else was there."
The gun belonged to granddad, but since they all lived together in the trailer it was accessible to the mixed-up son and the 8-year-old daughter too, for that matter.

A near-complete lack of gun control is responsible for this. We do not have to accept incidents like this as part of the deal. This is too high a price to pay for what some people mistakenly call "freedom."

More on Ann Barnhardt

The Pink Flamingo put together a wonderful post about the incredible Ann.

People like Ms Barnhardt are so self-centered, so ignorant, and so selfish that they don’t understand their “Freedom of Speech” is putting the lives of American soldiers in danger.  All that matters is WHAT THEY WANT, not in keeping our people safe.  All that matters is their irrational hatred of a religion, no matter if they insult our allies.

Funny thing about Hatred.  Ms. Barnhardt has a strange view of our men and women in uniform, openly challenging them to rebel against their Commander in Chief.  She doesn’t mind advocating a practice that will get our brave men and women killed.  She claims to be a patriot, but advocates eliminating MY right to vote and taking away the rights that make women the equal of men.
I've been thinking about Ann's videos which have become a little popular, the ones in which she burns the Koran pages. It occurred to me when I saw Pastor Terry's face in the news again last week, it was another article rehashing his actions.

It must be frustrating for Barnhardt, an educated and well-spoken person, to be seen as attempting to ride on the coat-tails of a semi-literate caveman hillbilly like the pastor. And the topper is he's a global phenomenon and she's still nobody.

To paraphrase what Captain Kirk said to Khan, "I'm laughing at the superior intellect, Ann."

NRA Member Demonstrates Child Discipline

In Minnesota:
Tara Tuchel described the cellphone call from her son Nate Livermore: "Mom, I'm being shot at! I'm being shot! -- click," she said. "How does a mother process a call like that?"

Yet another reason why you shouldn't allow your kids to go their friend's homes where dad is a gunloon.

The Glove Pistol

Issued by the U.S. Navy during World War II, this pistol allowed an operative to take out the enemy without ever removing his gloves. To fire the pistol, the wearer simply pushed the plunger against the victim’s body.

A Better Mousetrap

This looks a bit … direct, but it dates from 1882. James Williams needed a device that would destroy a burrowing animal and give an alarm so that it could be reset. His solution was a revolver attached to a treadle. Touché.

The patent abstract adds, “This invention may also be used in connection with a door or window, so as to kill any person or thing opening the door or window to which it is attached.” Evidently Williams had bigger problems than rodents.

Meet Deval Patrick - Governor of Massachusetts

Garrett Indiana - The Go Cart Shooter

The neighbor said she thought it would be safer in a small town like Garrett.  The fact is, there is no safe place in Indiana. Some of the lawful gun owners are unfit to own guns. Like I was telling Robert Farago yesterday when we were discussing whether gun control folks fear lawful gun owners or not, I believe we do. The reason for this is that the gun owners who are unfit and irresponsible and raging maniacs and withdrawing from their prescription meds or whose wives are cheating on them, all look just like the rest of them. We can't tell them apart.

To make matters worse, gun rights extremists oppose any and all restrictions which might screen out some of these undesireables. That's the most baffling part. If they would only police their own or allow the government to do it, they'd be better off, they'd be the first ones to benefit.

Meeker Oklahoma - Wife Dead

NewsOK reports

According to the affidavit, Hamlin told police he and his wife started drinking about 5 p.m. They later started arguing about one of Garner’s ex-boyfriends. Hamlin told police his wife retrieved and loaded his revolver, which he wrestled away from her. He claimed he was talking to her and waving the gun around when “it just went off,” the affidavit states.
You know what they say.

Alexandria, Virginia - 1 Dead, 1 Wounded

It sounds like the old "disgruntled ex-employee" syndrome. These are often done by law abiding gun owners who crack. The moment that happens, all the other law-abiding gun owners turn their back on the guy as if he were never a part of the fraternity.

Another interesting thing is that in one of the gun-friendliest states, no other lawful gun owner was able to intervene.  The guy literally got away with murder and then turned himself in to the police. Isn't it in shopping centers and malls, places like that, where the concealed carry guys are supposed to provide some kind of increased security?  Well they don't and I'll tell you why.

Just like in the famous Tucson incident a couple months ago, which took place in a state even more gun-friendly than Virginia, the people with guns were powerless to intervene. The reason for that is the chances of being in exactly the right place at exactly the right moment are extremely small. Even if many people in the immediate vicinity have guns, these incidents take place in a matter of seconds. Those guns in the hands of the good guys are useless.

On the other hand those same guns do great harm.  Like Mr. Nguyen, who very well might have owned his gun legally, lawful gun owners do sometimes go bad. When that happens people die.  You know what else those gun owners do?  They have accidents.  The more guns there are, the more accidents. And one other major down-side to gun proliferation among the law-abiding is they allow their guns to be stolen.

I realize some people don't like my use of the word "allow," so let me explain. When you leave your gun in the night stand or in the bedroom closet when you leave the house and someone breaks in and steals it, you have ALLOWED it to be stolen.  When you leave the gun in the glove compartment of the car and it's stolen, you have ALLOWED it to be stolen. Now, let's say on the other hand, you've invested in a proper gun safe, the thieves come in and like some professional safe-crackers they open it and clean you out. You are not guilty in that case. Naturally the more guns there are, the more get stolen, that's the bottom line.

To sum up, concealed carry, open carry, guns in the home, all these in the hands of lawful folks do very little good. Through direct misuse, accidents and theft, those same guns do great harm.

Nazi Stuff For Sale

via Media Matters

As a result, the Kentucky machine gun shoot, which is credibly billed as the largest festival of its kind in the world, exhibits the gun show equivalent of a split personality. The rent-a-machine-gun portion of the event is family-oriented. Fathers pay 80 bucks for their young sons to churn up the water of a holler pond with 60 rounds from a Heckler & Koch MP-5. Meanwhile, under the pavilion awning a short walk away, vendors hawk Joseph Goebbels propaganda and SS lightning bolt sweatshirts.

This spring, one of the hottest selling t-shirts at the machine gun shoot read "Armed Infidel" on the front. On the back: "Everything I needed to know about Islam I learned on 9-11." The creator of the shirts, Lexington, Kentucky resident John Lang, told me that he was inspired to make them by watching cable news.
I guess Fat White Man hasn't made it down to Kentucky in a while. He was very clear that there's none of that Nazi crap at the gun shows he attends.

Stephen Colbert on Jon Kyl

MN.......We're One of the Safest States? Another one:

The thought passing through my mind was.......how did this kid ever get the idea that pointing a loaded hand gun at another student, for whatever reason, but most importantly to resolve conflict, was acceptable?  Is it a failure in the home, a failure of our media / entertainment that promotes this idea as somehow powerful and successful, or.......something else?

Kids should be taught to use thought, language is thought, to express their emotions, to use ideas, for all purposes, including where appropriate as a weapon.  A gun (or a knife, etc.) used as a weapon, used to give them a sense of power, is disastrous.

While there is no guarantee that some violence might have resulted, like a couple of 13 year olds failing to use ideas and language, and instead resorting to say.....a fist fight, it is the access to weapons which ramp up the danger that exacerbates any problem to one that is potentially deadly (rather than ludicrous).

This specific school was the site of deaths from a student with a gun not all that long ago, the fall of 2003.  There is no way that a local student would not be aware of this event, and what a tragedy it was for the individuals and for this community.

What adult let this gun get out of their control?  Our standard for responsibility tends too often to be the minimal legal one; not a higher standard of the practical or ethical criteria for it.  If we have no legal requirements that define what is required, and impose penalties, then no adult will be held accountable for this action with a dangerous, potentially lethal weapon by a child - an older child, but still a child.  There are signigicant differences in the brains of children, and more dramatically in the brains of teens in this age range, in comparison to adults, as well as in experience, which affects their judgement.  It is for these reasons access to weapons should be more, not less, restricted to children and teens. (I love any post which gives me a chance to involve neuroscience; it gratifies my latent geek.)

Making schools gun-free zones will never prevent every single instance of a kid bringing a gun to school; but it can reduce the frequency, and it gives the teachers, principals, and other staff the greater power to do something about it when an incident like this occurs.

COLD SPRING, Minn. -- A seventh-grader at Rocori Middle School in Cold Spring has been charged with second-degree assault after prosecutors alleged he pointed a loaded handgun at another student.
The St. Cloud Times reports the 13-year-old boy was charged Wednesday in Stearns County. Because he is a minor, few details of the case are public.
The incident happened before 9 a.m. Tuesday. Students told the principal about seeing a gun. She opened the student's locker and found the pistol. She found ammunition in a backpack.
Rocori Superintendent Scott Staska says the boy is expected to be expelled.
In 2003, two students were shot and killed by another student at Rocori High School. The shooter remains in prison.

St. Paul, Minnesota - 1 Dead, 1 Wounded

Trevell Glass, fatally shot early Wednesday outside a St. Paul bar, was the third person in Raynard Glass' family to be gunned down in St. Paul in two decades.

"How could it just happen like this?" said Glass, who was an uncle to all three victims. Trevell Glass, 26, "was a good kid," he said. "He wasn't out there on the streets."
I find it surprising that Minnesota could be among the Most Peaceful States. They sure seem to have their share of gun trouble.

The Least Peaceful States

I certainly would not want to disparage the tremendous work that went into this report, but we could have told them this. Am I right?

Top 10 least peaceful states:
1, Louisiana
2. Tennessee
3. Nevada
4. Florida
5. Alabama
6. Texas
7. Arkansas
8. Oklahoma
8. South Carolina
10. Maryland

What's your opinion? Is "least peaceful" more-or-less the same as "most likely to get shot?"

The index is based on five primary indicators: (1) number of homicides per 100,000 people, (2) number of violent crimes per 100,000 people, (3) number of people in jail per 100,000 people, (4) number of police officers per 100,000 people and (5) general availability of small arms.
It seems to me that guns play a major role in every one of those criteria.

MN Gun Violence - and We're One of the Safe, Less Violent States

Thanks to posting on MikeB's blog, I have a heightened awareness of gun violence here in MN.  There is too much of it.

From today's STrib in Minneapolis:
1 Shot dead, another wounded outside St. Paul bar

A 26-year-old man was shot to death and another man was wounded early Wednesday outside a St. Paul bar, and four people have been arrested, authorities said.
The shooting in the North End neighborhood near Rice Street and Manitoba Avenue about 2 a.m. followed an altercation inside Born's Bar, police said.
The dead man was identified by police as Trevell Glass, of St. Paul.
The 28-year-old wounded man, whose identity was not released, was taken to Regions Hospital and is expected to survive, said police spokesman Officer John Keating.
Officers arriving at the scene of the shooting spotted a car fleeing and alerted fellow officers, Keating said. The vehicle was spotted a few minutes later at York and Case Avenues. One man in the car ran but was quickly caught, Keating said. Three others in the car were also apprehended.
All of the suspects are from St. Paul and are ages 24, 27, 31 and 36. The 31-year-old is suspected of being the shooter. The others are accused of aiding him. None have been charged.
Investigators say they have not yet ruled out the possibility that others were involved.
One of the victims was found bleeding on Manitoba, between the Rice Street bar and Oakland Cemetery. By daybreak, the spot was still wet from where police had the blood washed from the pavement near the curb.
"It's been quite some time since we've had trouble like this up in that area," Keating said.
The homicide is St. Paul's second of the year.

Texas Guns on Campus a No Go

The Washington Post reports.
Efforts to allow concealed handguns in college classrooms stalled in the Texas Senate for a second time Monday, leaving a measure that seemed headed for approval now struggling to survive.
But, why? What could account for the turnaround?

The bill first ran into problems last week when it came up one vote shy of the 21 needed for a floor vote. Sen. Mario Gallegos, D-Houston, who originally supported the bill, changed his mind after college administrators in his district complained about the potentially high cost of liability insurance and adding security.

Gallegos also asked teachers he knows to poll their students.

“(They) overwhelmingly wanted me to vote against the bill,” he said Monday.
I suppose I owe the great state of Texas an apology. I've spared no effort to malign the Lone Star State in the past. My eyes have been opened and a new respect and appreciation has manifested itself to me. Yee-Haw, Texas.

Chicago Police-Involved Shooting

The Chicago Tribune reports.

The incident happened before 8:30 p.m. in the 5300 block of West Van Buren Avenue. Preliminary reports said Austin District officers were responding to a call of a person with a gun and heard shots fired, police said.

The officers saw a male suspect who tried to flee when they approached him. Police said the suspect turned and pointed a gun in their direction. One of the officers fired their weapon striking the suspect.

Chicago Fire Department spokesman Rich Rosado said one person with gunshot wounds was taken in serious-to-critical condition to Stroger Hospital.

Police said a weapon was recovered at the scene.
The police need to hire some Madison Avenue people to come up with better ways to describe these incidents. In a confrontation, the bad guy either lunges or reaches into his waistband, when they're running away, they always "turn around and point a gun."

Color me sceptical.

The Brady Campaign Ad

What do you think?  I've never been too excited about the magazine limitation laws, but this ad is certainly a good reminder that the victims of gun violence are not always big bad guys caught in criminal activity. Is the type of collateral damage we see every day the price we have to pay for freedom? Does that make sense to you?

Gun Fight on HBO

A Blast from the Past

Remember Duke Watrous?

Well, his trial has started.  Apparently, he was giving his kids an NRA training course when things went badly:

A North Texas jury watched a chilling video Tuesday of a man accidentally shooting his 10-year-old daughter fatally in the head during a drunken lesson on handling handguns.
.........
On the video, Watrous lines his daughter and her 9-year-old brother up for the lesson as the carol "Joy to the World" plays in the background. The video shows Watrous tracking Ashley with a shotgun, rubbing her face and shoulder with the barrel and drunkenly asking, "Does that scare you? Are you scared?"
Then, he picks up a .44-caliber Magnum handgun. As the words "Merry Christmas" come from a television in the background, the guns goes off, the bullet goes through Ashley's head and lodges in a cupboard.

At the time, Sebastian Snowflake basically claimed gunloonery was a Constitutional right and, hey, if a kid gets hurt...well, too bad.

Let's see if I can sum up Sebastian's position.

He basically says, "who cares if a child gets killed so long as I can have any gun I want."

Really, his position is obscene. In his examples of free speech, one has the option to walk away and not listen. They have the option to turn the station or not read the document. If they do listen or read, being offended vmay be an inconvenience but it's not a life-altering event.
Unfortunately, with Sebastian's fetish, I have no choice in the matter if he decides to shoot me. Further, being dead or crippled for life isn't exactly the same as being offended.

Remember, there is no group advocating a total ban on guns. There is no group demanding an end to self defense. But Sebastian and his ilk are actively promoting more crime qand violence.

Legal vs. Illegal Guns

Over at Sebastian's we had the following exchange.

Alpheus said, "Mikeb302000, in order to make this claim believable, you’ll have to do several things:"

— fourth, that whenever these mass shootings occur, they are done by (mostly) legal guns.

This last point is a real sticking point to me. I’m even willing to give you leeway here: if the gunman accessed the guns from a trusted, legal source (such as the person’s parents), I would count such access “legal”, even if the person should not have had the gun. But you DO NOT get to claim that gun control works, when, in the Brazilian incident, gunman allegedly obtained the guns he used illegally. The entire PREMISE of gun control is that by making guns illegal, evildoers will not have access to guns–thus, if an evildoer BREAKS THE LAW to get guns, gun control, by definition, FAILS.
I responded like this:

Apheus,
I think you're conveniently leaving out something. ALL guns start out legal, unless you want to quibble over zip guns and those manufactured in the cellar of some clandestine gunsmith. ALL guns in criminal hands got there in one of three ways. 1. theft, 2, straw purchase, 3, private sale.

In most cases, regardless of which one of the three ways it happened, the last legal gun owner fucked up in some way. That makes those individuals partly responsible. The rest of you are dirty too because you oppose simple legislation, aimed at the law abiding, I grant you, which would prevent much of this.

Memphis - Double Murder and Suicide

The pro-gun voices continually cry out, "It's not the gun's fault." Well, I for one, have no problem with that. My question is, should we make it easier or harder for unstable people to get guns? Many tragedies could be averted with proper cgun control laws.

Lynn Police Shoot Man for Disobedience

According to O’Connell, Mathieu Michaud confronted the arriving officers on the street while carrying a butcher knife and two carving knives. Michaud approached their vehicle on the driver’s side.

Both officers got out on the passenger side, identifying themselves several times and ordering Michaud to drop the knives, O’Connell said.

Michaud refused, and officers saw what appeared to be a gun in his possession, O’Connell said. He did not comply with officers’ orders to drop it and was shot once, the statement said.
I wonder exactly how he was carrying three knives and a BB gun, staggeringly drunk, and the cops thought he posed a threat. It doesn't sound credible to me.

South Dakota - Murder and Attempted Suicide

Even in the supposedly placid state of South Dakota, guns are bad news for women. In this case the shooter was of that most vile type, succeeding in the murder part but somehow failing in the suicide part.

A Yankton woman died after an apparent murder-suicide attempt early Saturday morning.

According to the Yankton Police Department, Brianna Marie Knoll, 25, died of a gunshot wound in connection with an incident in the 1000 block of Whiting Drive.

Meanwhile, a male suspect, Nicholas Stewart Hines, 28, was found at 1008 Willow Lane with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was transported to Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, where he was stabilized and transferred to a Sioux Falls hospital. There is no word on his condition.
Naturally, there's no mention of his gun-owning status except to say that there were "several weapons" in his home. He could have been anything from a concealed-carry permit holder to a convicted armed-robbery felon. One thing for sure is Brianna Marie would have stood a better chance of survival if Nicholas did not have any guns.

This speculation is more than Monday morning quarterbacking. What's needed is better mental health screening for gun owners. People get angry all the time, but it takes a special kind of person to get angry enough to do this. In many cases those people leave plenty of signs which should disqualify them from gun ownership long before they kill someone.

Columbus, Ohio Vying for Most Violent City

The local news reports on the several shootings accross the city.
Two more people were wounded in shootings on Sunday, closing out a violent weekend that saw more than a dozen people shot across the city.
Where do you think all those guns are coming from? Situated between two of the gun-friendliest states in the North, Pennsylvania and Indiana, I suppose anyone in Ohio would find it easy to get guns.

What do you think is the biggest source of guns in the criminal world, theft or straw purchasing? Is there a third possibility, remember we're talking about the point at which the gun passes from the good guys to the bad guys?

Why do the good guys have such a hard time holding on to their guns? And given the fact that they obviously do, isn't it foolish of them to resist proper gun control laws?

And We In Minnesota Are One of the Most Peaceful States, Right?

And yet, this seems to be quite a lot of continuing gun violence, compared to jurisdictions that just have fewer guns.

We're free - to die in greater numbers than the equally free people who live in countries where guns are regarded more sanely for what they are - weapons - and where people expect to live with less reliance on WEAPONS.

Police ID man who killed co-workers in Brooklyn Park before killing himself

Authorities released the identity Monday afternoon of the man who fatally shot two fellow employees in the break room of a Brooklyn Park grocery store, then fled to Minneapolis and killed himself near the Mississippi River.
Aaron L. Parson, 23, of Brooklyn Park died Friday night of a gunshot wound to the head, according to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office.
Michael Habte, 21, and his girlfriend, Abigail M. Fedeli, 20, both of Brooklyn Park, were fatally shot by Parson, who also worked at Festival Foods but was off-duty. Parson apparently was fueled by jealousy when he stormed into the break room and shot the two.
Parson's body was found near the Washington Avenue Bridge not long after the killings.
Fedeli was shot once in the neck, according to the medical examiner. Habte died while in surgery at North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale; he was shot multiple times, the medical examiner said.
All three were "long-term, current employees who were well-respected," said Tom Clasen, vice president of operations for Knowlan's Super Markets Inc., which operates Festival Foods.
According to a friend of Habte's, the shooter used to date Fedeli. Habte had been dating Fedeli for a month or two, said Andrew Hawkinson, a friend of Habte's since they were in first grade.

Gun Laws in the Netherlands

Self defence is not regarded as a valid argument for owning a gun, and only the police are allowed to carry a weapon. The main purpose of Dutch gun laws is to create a clear division between legal gun owners and people who use guns for criminal purposes. So far, the Dutch have been fairly successful in accomplishing this objective.
The main exceptions are sports shooters and hunters. Both have to go through extremely strict, lengthy and expensive steps in order to qualify to own guns. Maybe the U.S. could learn something from the Dutch.

Another Tucson Tragedy

Just before 1 a.m., Valenzuela, 21, and another man were at the northwest corner of the Corbett Elementary School yard when Valenzuela fired shots from a handgun, [Tucson Police spokesman Sgt. Matt] Ronstadt said.

Shortly after Valenzuela fired the first few shots, an adult in a nearby apartment verbally confronted him, Ronstadt said.

During the verbal confrontation Valenzuela walked towards the adult and was standing on the road in front of the complex, pointed the gun at the adult in the doorway and fired at least one shot, Ronstadt said.

That is when Johnathan Federico ran into the doorway and was hit by a bullet, Ronstadt said.

Brooklyn Park - Double Murder Suicide

a store employee, apparently fueled by jealousy, had stormed into the break room where two co-workers sat at 8:30 p.m. and shot them, killing one and fatally injuring the other, before fleeing to Minneapolis and turning the gun on himself.
I wonder if he could have been a legal gun owner up until the moment of the crime? Maybe Dog Gone will give us a follow-up report, I think this is in her neck of the woods.

One thing we can all agree on, in hindsight, is we'd have been better off if this guy hadn't been able to get a gun. Is that a safe assumption? In many cases, we could prevent guys like this from getting guns without interfering with the law-abiding gun owners. So why do those law-abiding gun owners resist common sense gun control at every opportunity?

Guns in Schools

Dedicated to Arizona and Texas and all those other backward-thinking states where they like guns in schools.

British Gun Fanatic David Evans

The Daily Mail reports.

But yesterday the self-confessed gun ‘fanatic’ was starting a 16-year jail term after being convicted of a total of 29 charges of possessing and transferring the weapons to two brothers who are already behind bars.

The gun fanatic had been banned from owning guns after he was jailed for three years in 2005 for posting an illegal firearm to a legitimate dealer in Scotland.

He told officers: ‘It might sound a bit sad but in my loft I had some mannequins which I dressed as German soldiers, American soldiers – but obviously I had no guns.

Officers who seized the cache of 16 deadly guns initially feared they may have been stored on behalf of a far-Right group such as the English Defence League.

They said the guns could have caused mayhem had they fallen into the hands of terrorists or the region’s drugs gangs.
What's your opinion? Is that a too harsh sentence? He wasn't a first time offender, remember.

NH Parole Board Grants Early Release

The New Hampshire Parole Board granted early release Thursday to a killer who says he has transformed himself behind bars.

Eldridge, who is now 43, was 20 when he shot and killed 15-year-old Travis Wiggins in Tamworth in 1988. Eldridge said he pointed the loaded gun at Wiggins intending to scare him when his finger slipped off the hammer and the gun fired.
First of all, I don't know what the hell they're talking about calling this "early" release. The guy served over 20 years. But secondly, it was an accident, for crying out loud. This is the kind of time people should do for pre-meditated murder, not for unintentional manslaughter.

$1.2 Million for Police Shooting

It happened in Philadelphia, where they have more than their share of police shootings.

The officer who fired the shot, Steven Szczepkowski remains on duty. He could not be reached for comment.

Szczepkowski was cleared of any criminal charges by former District Attorney Lynne Abraham and was not found in violation of any department policies, said Craig Straw, the chief deputy city solicitor for civil rights.

Szczepkowski was given additional fire arms training and instruction in "directive 10," the city's policy on the use of deadly force.
This is why Philadelphia's Finest are among the most hated in the country. Shooting an unarmed man in the head, using the lame excuse of thinking he was pointing a gun or reaching into his waistband, not even receiving a slap on the wrist, these are the kinds of things that characterize the Philadelphia Police Department.

Neighborly Feud in Palm Desert - 2 Dead

mydesert.com reports.

A 42-year-old Palm Desert man has been jailed on two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder for allegedly killing a 24-year-old father and his 2-year-old daughter, and for trying to kill the family's 43-year-old grandmother, a Riverside County sheriff's spokeswoman announced today.
I wonder if he'd been a lawful gun owner up until the incident. He might have had a concealed carry permit. You know, many times no one checks on that with dead bodies and other distracting factors to deal with.

Better screening for mental health problems and misdemeanor violence could prevent some of these guys from buying guns. Stricter gun control laws can diminish the availability of guns to the already committed criminals.

What's your opinion? Should we make it easier for people, law-abiding and criminal alike, to get guns like the gun-rights extremists want?

Chester PA - 2 Dead, 8 Wounded

Yahoo News reports: a teen party, some brought a gun and shot up the joint.

Police said the illegal drug trade was the source of much of the violence, while others have blamed easy access to firearms. The mayor has said such shootings are often retaliation for other violence.

Mr. G Guy on Climate Change

It seems, our friend at Mr. G Guy's Blog is a climate change denier. Of course to make it sound better he refers to it as "global warming," which everyone knows is scientifically disproved by one cold March, and, I suppose, a lot of snow this past winter.

I'll bet he agreed with Ann Coulter when she said a little radiation is good for ya.

Anyone with half a brain knows these are just liberal conspiracies. Just ask Fat White Man.

Ann Barnhardt Goes off the Deep End

Posted one minute apart on April 7th, this:

and this:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL.

For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †
I love that little cross at the end of the prayer, and the rosary beads are a nice touch too, don't you think.

Ann posted two videos, seen here and here, which she claims have created a world-wide sensation. I wondered if she's trying to piggy-back on the fame of Pastor Terry. Although Ann's not really attractive, she does have a certain gift-o-the-gab and she does that tough-talking thing that certain types of men find appealing. Apparently she's received some death threats along with the "overwhelming" support. Here's her response.

There are a LOT of emails of concern for my safety. Yes, I knew EXACTLY what I was doing going in to this, and I am HONORED to lead you into this battle. But if you REALLY want to help me, here is what you can do. Go out, buy a koran, video yourself burning it and post that on YouTube. Do it NOW. Show the muslims how utterly futile it would be to kill me. I am delighted to lead from the front, but the only way this works is if you wonderful patriots BACK ME UP. One man storming the beach at Normandy would have been meaningless machine gun fodder. But the First Army U.S. and the Second Army U.K. storming the beach constituted a decisively victorious force. Oooh-Rah!
What's your opinion? Is she making a mistake to consider all of Islam the enemy? Her premise seems to be built on that. Does she, and the other Islam-haters, not see that there are good and bad people in every group, including the hundreds of millions of Muslims?

What about her tough talk. I think Breda and Tam could pick up a few pointers from this gal, what do you think?
